about

I had always wanted to write a drinking song, and since many philosophers were famous drunks, it seemed appropriate to write one for this album. This song was incredibly fun to record as well. We incorporated Christopher's Emenee audion chord organ, a cheap $9 plastic chord organ that sounded gloriously horrible, as well as multiple tracks of everyone in the house telling drunk stories. As for our condition during the lead vocal recording, well, the track sings for itself.

lyrics

Well, shiver me timbers and blow me down,
we're getting drunk around the town.
Shiver me timbers and blow me down,
we're getting drunk around the town.

When a fisherman comes in from the sea,
what does he want? A stein of mead!
Red wine at night, a sailor's delight.
Drinking and drinking 'til morning's light.

Well, shiver me timbers and blow me down,
we're getting drunk around the town.
Shiver me timbers and blow me down,
we're getting drunk around the town.

Well, a fisherman's friend ain't in the sea.
It's liquid courage: That's fine whiskey!
Chased with an ale like Ahab's whale,
now drink that bottle before it goes stale.

Well, shiver me timbers and blow me down,
we're getting drunk around the town.
Shiver me timbers and blow me down,
we're getting drunk around the town.
